When I put this blog together earlier this week, nobody was paying attention to the Alaska anomalies that I could find.

FiveThirtyEight and MSNBC have since drawn further attention to the issue and Shannyn Moore, Alaska native, has emerged as the primary voice for the movement. With her receiving national media attention, there is no longer any point in my actively blogging on the topic.

I refer anyone interested in the facts to her site.

The summary points in favor of there being active Voter Suppression of Democrats in the Anchorage suburbs are quite simple:

1) Much of Rural Alaska displayed a swing to Obama.
2) The most intense swing to McCain occurred in the Anchorage suburbs.
3) Democratic voter turnout was down massively only in these precincts.
4) Anecdotal evdience suggests that voters in these precincts experienced no visible lack of turnout.
5) Diebold machines are in use in these precincts.

The general public ought to take this instance of egregious fraud, and there is no other logical explanation since a natural turnout decrease ought to be spread across the state, as proof that Diebold's machines can not be used safely, and support universal voter registration at the federal level and an ISO, open source standard on voting machine design, mandated and funded by the federal government.

Shannyn Moore: Just A Girl From Homer

Native Alaskan Blogger Shannyn Moore has examined the returns in more detail than I have had leisure to. It appears the fix may have been put in in the Anchorage area for the necessary and sufficient reason that the Diebold machines facillitating the theft were present there rather than the rural districts.

It is not now clear to me from her post whether the 2004 results were equally fudged with inflated Bush votes or if the simpler explanation of Diebold boxes eating the errant votes pertains.

I am emailing her for clarification on the point and to try and make a common cause.

Sarah Palin is conspiring with, or at least not preventing the actions of, GOP sympathizers within the Alaskan Government who are preventing somewhere between 25,000 and 60,000 Democratic votes form the Anchorage Metropolitan area from being counted. This is nearly a third of the Democratic vote in Alaska and a tenth of the Alaska electorate.

A cursory review of the Alaska returns precludes any other possible explanation.

Many of you are aware of Ted Stevens' unusual lead in his Senate race in Alaska, despite his having been found guilty of felony corruption charges. He is outperforming polling expectations by 14 percentage points. Nate Silver reported on this anomaly yesterday FiveThirtyEight. He is being far too generous in his analysis, although he has a reputation as a responsible analyst to uphold now and being the first to cry fraud would dampen that.

Below are the Alaska return numbers compared to the poll projections which I have excerpted from him:

Were it a matter of Alaskans being comfortable with having a criminal in their Senate seat but being unwilling to tell pollsters about it, then this 14 point plus polling error would be baffling but explicable. The House seat is skewed by this same margin though, and McCain has a similar advantage over the polls in the main race. One might argue that there is an Alaskan Bradley effect in action in McCain over Obama, but there remains the Berkowitz-Young race.

Another problem is that a lot of voters are missing. 220,000 votes had been tallied as of yesterday, with 50,000 odd absentee ballots and early votes yet to be tallied. 313,000 votes were cast in the 2004 election. That represents a 14% drop in turnout, in spite of increases in turnout in every other state in the union.

Some say that this is the result of voter apathy, that Democratic voters throughout the state saw that Stevens was doomed in the polls and Obama was sure to win, and thus stayed home. Some say that older Democratic women chose en masse to stay home rather than go out in the rain and snow to vote. Some credit the immense charisma of Governor Palin. All of these explanations can be dismissed based on the second piece of evidence, which I have gotten from Paul Krugman's blog today.

Votes clearly swung towards Obama over Bush throughout the entire nation except for the mountains of Appalachia, the landfall of Katrina, and the suburbs of Anchorage.

If voter apathy had hit Alaska, it would have hit the state uniformly. The same holds for Palinmania. Only one part of Alaska had a massive swing towards McCain, and it is the only urban area in the state.

We now have to ask ourselves which is more probable. Did the majority of the Democratic vote in one of the most populous areas of the state, 40,000 people, just decide it wasn't worth the effort of voting on Tuesday, or is the Palin state house and whoever is running the vote counting show in that bright red spot on the map trying to steal an election for Stevens? (And since Stevens will all but certainly be expelled by the Senate, for Palin herself?)

Before you dismiss this evidence as circumstantial, let me point out that this bizarrely disportionate turnout was exactly the same kind of evidence that led the BBC, the UN, and the US State Department to conclude the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election was cooked.

In that case Viktor Yanukovych skewed the first results by 9 percentage points in his favor by stuffing phony votes into the areas of the country that supported him. In this case we have 14 percentage points being "made to disappear" in Alaska. Perhaps Governor Palin does keep a closer eye on the politics of the former Soviet Union than her incoherent foreign policy statements would indicate. She is certainly adopting a style more consonant with Stalin's policy of dealing with dissent.

Yanukovych, you may remember, was implicated in the poisoning of his opponent Viktor Yushchenko, who is still horribly scarred as a result of the KGB style binary poison he was dosed with. Mayor Begich can be thankful he has not been served in like turn, although trying to murder one's opponent in a way that implicates your political allies is almost as stupid as running for mayor of Philadelphia on the Segregation ticket. Still, Yanukovych did manage to do a better job than Palin and Stevens in one respect. He spread his egregious voter fraud out over a much wider area, while the Alaska anomaly might as well be a bullseye.

In all seriousness. I am not a citizen of Alaska, but I am an American, one of the number smeared as not being of the "Real America" in one of Palin's disgusting stump speeches. A crime against democracy is being committed under Palin's nose, if not with her approval. We are not talking about 40,000 voters being suppressed in Ohio or Florida, we are talking about a significant chunk of Alaska's population being silenced for political gain.

This is an outrage.

How will Palin be able to represent the GOP in the 2012 election if she is party to the silencing of a tenth of her state? How will she look foreign leaders in the face and encourage them to adopt liberal democratic institutions when she now appears to be party to the largest per capita voter fraud in recent hisory? How dare she and the GOP condemn ACORN as a Mickey Mouse organization when she and her party have committed a fraud dwarfing anything some threepenny canvasser looking for a quota bonus could hope for?

The DNC must send lawyers, activists and resources to Alaska to investigate and stop this crime.
The media must investigate and report this abomination without fear or bias or lose all credibility.

If the American Media will not do so, then the BBC should step in and show the world that this is the kind of politician Sarah Palin is.

John McCain and the GOP must repudiate the actions of Palin, Stevens, and or whomever is responsible.

If the missing ballots can not be recovered, a revote must be held for all three of these offices and Federal, and yes, if need be, international, observers must be brought in to ensure the votes are actually tallied.

The people of Alaska must march to make their outrage known when they understand the crime that has been committed against them.

Sarah Palin must never be allowed to serve in a national office.
